All NOXXON Spiegelmers are discovered at NOXXON's research facilities using the in-house discovery platform that NOXXON has built-up through internal investment and selective licensing of technology over the years since its foundation. NOXXON believes that its intellectual property position provides it with exclusive access to the systematic selection of L-stereoisomer nucleic acid-based therapeutics.

The identification of Spiegelmers to a new target involves screening of extremely large combinatorial libraries containing over 10¹⁵ different molecules. NOXXON's technology combines the SELEX process (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential Enrichment) - the method to screen such a library - with chemical mirroring technology. Employing NOXXON's technology Spiegelmers can be rapidly generated against a wide variety of target molecules.

Spiegelmers are chemical entities unknown to nature and do not require complex biological production processes. NOXXON has established optimized production and quality control methods in-house and with partners for GMP production.

The technology group interacts regularly with NOXXON's intellectual property advisors to further enhance NOXXON's exclusive position with regard to the Spiegelmer discovery platform and to ensure that Spiegelmers selected for further development are protected by patents in major markets.
